About Karachi Tax Bar Association

On 12 July 1956, distinguished tax professionals including Mr. Ismail D. Lambat, Mr. H. Shaban, Mirza Adam Khan G., Mr. Ismail Bhimani, Mr. Shaukat Ali Syed, Mr. Ghufran Ahmed, Mr. Masud Ahmed Abbasi, Mr. Mubin Haq Siddiqui, Mr. Y.S. Shaikh, and Mr. Silar Shah founded the Income Tax Practitioners’ Association.

The Association was established to provide a common platform for tax consultants and professionals to address the problems and challenges encountered in the discharge of their professional duties. It also aimed to enable members to express their views on matters relating to the administration of tax laws and the dispensation of justice. Another primary objective of the Association was to safeguard and protect the rights, privileges, and professional interests of its members. The Association was subsequently taken over by the Karachi Tax Bar Association.

The Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) is one of the largest tax bars in Pakistan, comprising advocates, professional accountants, and tax consultants. It has a long-standing tradition of organizing seminars, workshops, conferences, and professional development programs on taxation, fiscal policy, and related legal and economic issues.

Over the past several decades, the Bar has consistently promoted and upheld the highest standards of honesty, integrity, professionalism, and competence among its members, thereby enhancing the dignity, prestige, and reputation of the taxation profession.

The Association regularly publishes News & Views (Tax Magazine) to promote professional education and knowledge sharing among its members and the wider community.

KTBA has played a constructive and significant role in assisting the Government of Pakistan in formulating tax policies, promoting tax reforms, and fostering a stronger tax culture in the country to support sustainable economic growth. It has also organized landmark national conferences on taxation, including the first-ever National Tax Conference in Pakistan under the theme “Tax Culture for the Revival of the Economy.”

The Association is committed to strengthening professional capacity through training and educational initiatives. KTBA also actively encourages its members to pursue higher education and professional excellence by introducing medals to recognize outstanding academic achievement.
